The High Cost of Your Porn
Large numbers of Catholic men (perhaps 60-70 %) view porn on a monthly basis. The Catholic Church teaches that watching porn is a grave sin, one that does great harm:
2354 Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.
Donny Pauling, a former porn producer and recent convert to the Catholic Church offers a horrific insider look over at Lifesite News at the cost of porn on the young women who are recruited into this depravity. Speaking of “Mindy” a young women he recruited into the pornography industry:
I’ve now known Mindy for almost 13 years. I could write more than one book about her life alone. What is important for you to know is this: when I led her into pornography, her life was forever changed. Random strangers still recognize her and make assumptions about her. She fights hard with the mental illness. There is nothing at all attractive about what happened to her. I wonder if the men and women who found the images and video content we produced of Mindy so appealing would find it attractive if they knew what it cost her. I wonder if they would be aroused if they knew the reality. But while I was the one who put her in front of a camera, the Law of Supply and Demand also means all of us who have consumed pornography are part of this cycle of broken lives. Mindy’s story is not unique; it happens in some form or other every day, repeatedly. Mindy is someone’s daughter. What if she was yours?
Indeed. Catholic men need to realize that the Mighty King has a complete insight into the things we think and do in private. Our King says this (Matt 5:28-30):
But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
If Our Lord and Savior condemns lustful looks as adultery, what will He think of Catholic men watching porn on a regular basis? Repent. Go to Confession and seek the Lord’s mercy and help. You can be pure.
